The International Baccalaureate Program for Computer Science is a rigorous, pre-university course of study. It is a comprehensive, balanced curriculum that incorporates high standards of assessment.
IB Computer Science is designed to meet the needs of highly motivated students. Most students first enroll in Computer Science 1 & 2 (Visual Basic) to gain a good foundation. This is not a requirement, but strongly recommended. Computer Science 3 & 4 (first year Java) provides the foundation for success for those pursuing the standard level IB. Many students complete the standard level while taking Computer Science 5 & 6. Likewise Computer Science 5 & 6 (second year Java) prepares students for the higher level IB. Many students complete the higher level requirements while taking Computer Science 7 & 8.
Both standard level (SL) and higher level (HL) students study a common core of material and must demonstrate problem-solving skills and mastery of various aspects of computers science by completing a program dossier. Higher level students extend their core knowledge to provide greater depth and breadth.
