Instructions:  These questions are designed to help prepare you for a real world interview.  You will need a partner to interview with in this exercise.  One of you should take on the role of the employer and the other person will be interviewed.  The person doing the interview will need to consider ahead-of-time some of the responses that will be made during the course of the interview.

 

Job Background:  The job you are interviewing for is a position with a local computer store where you will be hired as a computer technician.  You will be expected to be on time, dress in a professional fashion, have good technical skills, and have reasonable computer service skills.  

 

Job Description:

Build and set up new computers.

Clean and maintain computers and peripherals.

Install workstation operating system and software.

Help maintain an inventory of part.

Troubleshoot client workstations that are not working properly.

Download files from the Internet and install drivers.

 

Employer Preparation:  Please look over the questions before you begin.  Several questions require that you have some type of hypothetical response ready.  The places during the interview where you will need to make up a response are in boldface.  Take a minute to think up some responses before you begin.  Read the job description to the interviewee before you begin.  As the employer it will be your job to take notes on their responses.  Your notes will be turned in for a grade for you and your partner.  Do a good job!

 

1)           Could you define the word Honesty?

 

2)   Could you define the word Trust?

 

3)   What does it mean to be trustworthy?

 

4)   What does it means to have "high expectations?"

 

As an employer explain what those expectations are from your viewpoint.  Share with them that if they are given the job you expect them to excel.

 

5)   What training and/or experience do you have that qualifies you for this job?

 

6)   Ask them if they would feel comfortable letting you know about problems: both equipment and people problems.

 

7)   As an employer discuss expectations with each candidate:

 

Thing that are off limits

Responsibility with tools, software, and hardware

Arrival and finish times

Eating

Transportation

 

8)           What are your strengths?  Weaknesses?

 

9)           How do you keep up with new advances in technology?

 

10)      Do you have any questions you would like to ask me?
